Choosing Trust in the Midst of Pain

I wrote this years ago, but it rings true now. My dad died in an accident at work a few weeks ago. He was a great dad who always made me laugh but was also there to listen and give Godly advice. His faith and love for others permeated his whole life.

With his death, I am learning the true meaning of praising in the storm, of choosing to hold onto faith even as the grief is so fresh. And even when I’m weak and don’t have the strength to hold on, I know the Father is holding me because He chose me first.

I Will Choose

My heart hurts
My soul aches
Questions fill my mind
Unrest is within me

I don't understand Your ways
I don't know why things happen
At times I just don't get You
And I don't always like Your plans

Daddy, why do people hurt?
Abba, why so much pain?
I have no answers...

But I will choose to stand
To stand on the foundation of Your promises
Satan will not have a foothold
Evil will not prevail

I will choose to trust
Even when I don't feel You
When I don't get it
And life is painful

I will choose to have faith
To see through the darkness
Though it looms near
I will walk in the light

I will choose You

ABOUT OUR BLOGGER

Danielle (Dani) Rupp grew up in a small town in Ohio and is a true Buckeye fan, though she tries not to be obnoxious about it. In 2011 she came to PA to earn her Master of Social Work degree. After graduation Dani accepted a position as a mental health therapist for children and adolescents in Coatesville. She was a nanny for several years as well. During that time she lived in Kennett Square and attended Willowdale Chapel. She returned several years ago from South Asia where she learned to tolerate spicy food and cross the roads without being hit, as well as volunteered with International Justice Mission in their Aftercare Department. In her free time, Dani enjoys going on mission trips/traveling, running, reading, and connecting with loved ones—preferably over coffee and a sweet treat.
